Lyca’s Gnanam Foundation made another valuable contribution to help the northern communities of Sri Lanka by providing industrial type water purifiers toVavuniya’s general hospital, which could purify 9000 L per month.
The official handing over ceremony was held on 1st August 2014 at the Vavuniya General Hospital premises with the participation of Divisional Secretary Mr. Uthayaraja, who handed the water purification units over to Dr. Ahilendran, Director General of Vavuniya Hospital Gnanam Foundation staff members also participated in this event.
Commenting on the water purifier donation, Dr Ahilendran mentioned that a long term need of the hospital has been fulfilled and these water purification units will be located in the operation theatre, OPD, maternity ward and ward No. 14 of Vavuniya General Hospital. They will provide clean water to the patients and staff of the hospital. Water contamination and water borne diseases have become one of the common health issues identified in the Northern Province.
Two thirds of the country is considered a dry zone, where people face difficulties in accessing safe drinking water. Lyca’s Gnanam Foundation will continue to facilitate this type of assistance after properly evaluating the needs and will ensure more clean water is provided to Sri Lankan communities in need.
